East Texas is a distinct geographic and ecological area in the U.S. state of Texas. According to the Handbook of Texas, the East Texas area "may be separated from the rest of Texas roughly by a line extending from the Red River in north central Lamar County southwestward to east central Limestone County and then southeastward to Galveston Bay", though some separate the Gulf Coast area into a separate region. This area includes all or parts of 49 counties, totaling almost 40,000 square miles (100,000 km) and a population of almost 6 million. Another popular, somewhat simpler, definition defines East Texas as the region between Interstate 45 as the western border linking Dallas and Houston, the Louisiana border as the eastern border, the Oklahoma border as the northern border, and Galveston Bay shores as the southern border. Most of the region consists of the Piney Woods ecoregion, and East Texas can sometimes be reduced to include only the Piney Woods. Houston is rarely regarded as a part of East Texas and is more closely associated with the Coastal Bend along the Gulf of Mexico; as has been the case for most of the city's recent history. At the fringes, towards central Texas, the forests expand outward toward sparser trees and eventually into open plains. From Wikipedia under the

Moving from Dallas area and can't decide! Q. I am tired of the "big city". I want to move to East Texas/Texarkana or Oklahoma City suburbs. I have two small children and a husband. He can get work at either place, and we have relatives near both places. Anyone have experience with either of these places? I want to live somewhere where not too small...for job possibilities. (Construction jobs). Asked by angelsteps51 - Thu Oct 19 16:23:12 2006 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. I don't agree that living in OKC is like living in a large city. It's one of the friendliest places in the country. Seems like everywhere you go, you see someone you know. However, if you like smaller town atmosphere, I would look for suburb/towns in metro that are either farther east or west of city proper, like Choctaw, Yukon, Mustang, etc. More of small town feel but still easy access to city benefits. I have lived in Houston, OKC, Baton Rouge and Des Moines, and I would have to choose OKC, just because of the economical living conditions and the access to activities. It's nice to be able to afford to travel elsewhere and then avoid the crowds when you come back here. Q. I didn't measure it, but it looks around 3 feet and I guess they're more like tan rings rather than stripes about every 5 inches or so. Asked by pt09@sbcglobal.net - Wed May 13 14:17:33 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. There are several snakes that meet that description, but without more specific information or pictures it's hard to tell which. One that is very common in east texas is the texas brown snake, and I'll put a picture. These max out at about 12 inches.
