From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Ancient Greece is the civilization belonging to the period of Greek history lasting from the Archaic period of the 8th to 6th centuries BC to 146 BC and the Roman conquest of Greece after the Battle of Corinth. At the center of this time period is Classical Greece, which flourished during the 5th to 4th centuries BC, at first under Athenian leadership successfully repelling the military threat of Persian invasion. The Athenian Golden Age ends with the defeat of Athens at the hands of Sparta in the Peloponnesian War in 404 BC. Classical Greek culture had a powerful influence on the Roman Empire, which carried a version of it to many parts of the Mediterranean region and Europe, for which reason Classical Greece is generally considered to be the seminal culture which provided the foundation of Western civilization. What are some good reasons that they shouldnt have abolished slavery in ancient Greece? Asked by rfree2340 - Mon Oct 20 00:06:31 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. How about you use the historical reasons for slavery? 1. If we emancipate slaves, how will we provide for them? Where will we find jobs and housing for them? Do we just turn them loose in the streets to become thieves and beggars? 2. The city will starve without the slave run farms. If you free the slaves, you cut off the city's primary source of food because the farmers won't be able to till their lands by themself. Their farm will fold and they will be another hungry mouth in the city. 3. The slaves will still fight us. Most slaves are captured POWs. Free them, and the first thing they will do is go back to their home and rejoin the army and plot their vengeance, only this time they have an intimate understanding of the city-layout,… [cont.] Answered by MJR - Mon Oct 20 00:26:09 2008 Why are a lot of sculptures of ancient greece/rome created without clothing?
Q. I always see ancient roman/greek human sculptures without any clothing. i've seen some (and there are) sculptures that do have clothing on them before, but most i see are naked. plus, i always see roman/greek sculptures of males totally nude. but female sculptures tend not to show their whole nude bodies like man sculptures do. why is all of this? do they make sculptures naked to show more detail? do ancient artist of rome/greece tend to be more modest with female sculptures about clothing? Libraries, books, google. There are many sources. Do some research and you'll find out why. 1 reason though is because of the Olympics. Not the Olympics that we have today which is a Joke in my opinion, but the real creators of the Olympics, the Greek and Romans. Like i said, do some research, I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for Answered by Vendetta - Thu Oct 8 20:50:45 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "ancient greece" Simply Rod - The Australian
