Photography is the process, activity and art of creating still or moving pictures by recording radiation on a radiation-sensitive medium, such as a photographic film, or an electronic sensor. Photography uses foremost radiation in the UV, visible and near-IR spectrum. For common purposes the term light is used in stead of radiation. Light reflected or emitted from objects form a real image on a light sensitive area (film or plate) or a FPA pixel array sensor by means of a pin hole or lens in a device known as a camera during a timed exposure. The result on film or plate is a latent image, subsequently developed into a visual image (negative or diapositive). An image on paper base is known as a print. The result on the FPA pixel array sensor is an electrical charge at each pixel which is electronically processed and stored in a computer (raster)-image file for subsequent display or processing. Photography has many uses for business, science, manufacturing (f.i. Photolithography), art, and recreational purposes. Lens and mounting of a large-format camera. But in an article published on February 25 of the same year in an unknown and quite anonymous newspaper called the Vossische Zeitung, Johann von Maedler, a Berlin astronomer, used the word photography already. The word photography is based on the Greek φῶς (photos) "light" and γραφή (graphé) "representation by means of lines" or "drawing", together meaning "drawing with light". From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License Why do college photography courses still make you use a film camera? Q. I can't believe the number of photography courses which still want you to shoot black and white film and develop it yourself. I have no objection to b&w and all it entails but time should be spent on composition and exposure, not mixing chemicals. Digital, with its instant feedback and dirt cheap cost-per-shot, is the all-time killer photography teaching tool. Why would educators not see this? Asked by Gattu9005 - Sun Jul 5 08:33:07 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. the answer is obvious to trained potographers. composition is easy, exposure is best learnt by understanding zones as per ansell adams and black and white is the best teacher. so thats the answer for you: black and white is the best teacher. is this for discusion or you seriously cant fiquire it out? as for mixing chemicals it takes only reading the bottle and mixing with water - takes about 30 minutes to do it not an entire course Answered by PrachiDesai36 - Tue Jul 7 03:51:37 2009 Starting into Photography, What is the best program for editing digital photos? Q. I have been told that Adobe Photo shop is the way to go but I really would like some input before I drop all that cash. I am looking into Portrait and nature photography. I would like to use one program only and I want to be able to do all sorts of things, for instance, adding hints of color to B&W images, changing filters etc... Any input would be helpful. If anyone has used Adobe tips would be welcomed too! Thank you so much. Asked by lil_love1982 - Mon Jan 14 02:33:30 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. I liked and used Corel Photo Paint for several years. Photo Paint is compatible with Photoshop, in that any plug-in you can buy for Photoshop is supposed to work with Corel Photo Paint. The two programs don't work the same way -- so when you're learning one, you're not learning the other. In my opinion, Photo Paint is easier to use, and I prefer Photo Paint's methods for selecting areas/masking. However, there's no substitute for Photoshop. Every photo magazine you pick up has a how-to using Photoshop. There are a million books on Photoshop in your local bookstore. There are several good online tuturials for it, also. You'll ultimately end up using Photoshop one day; there's no avoiding it. Q. I'm currently 13 years old and going to be 14 in a few months, and I want to start photography as a hobby. I don't know which camera to buy and use. I'd like one preferably under $350 since that's all I can afford for now. Asked by ...just dont ask - Fri Jul 30 00:06:21 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. A digital SLR (DSLR) with a decent lens would be ideal. However--you can use a non DSLRs like "point-and-shoots" (many of which are in your price range) as long as they have a "full manual operation mode" in addition to the program modes that come with them. Find a syllabus for any photography classes your school may offer. The minimal recommended gear you need are usually listed--sometimes good places for students to buy them are too. As others have posted here, you can get good deals on used cameras--just make sure you're able to "test the goods" before you fork over your hard-earned money. If there are any reputable camera stores (and I tend to shy away from the mall chain camera stores) you can often find good deals on "starter SLR… [cont.] Answered by Joe M. - Thu Aug 5 23:36:24 2010 From Yahoo Answer Search: "photography" Photography is...
