A. I have lived in every part of the United States. California,Seattle,New Orleans,NY,Maine,Florida and Tennessee. By far Houston T.X. is the worst. The city is run very poorly. The people there lack sophistication and it's a mecca for illegal immigrants. It's a double standard town. I was involved in a accident with someone who did not speak english no driver's license,no insurance,no tags, nothing. This person should have went to jail. The Houston Police department shows up and says there is nothing we can do but give them tickets. Went to court guess what they did not show. If I get in a small fender bender and don't have insurance,a licence,no tags and can speak english then I go to jail. I had to fix my car myself. No one cares… [cont.]

How come people think Texas is so uneducated and behind the rest of the US?
Q. How come people think Texas is so uneducated and behind the rest of the US? Don't they know that some of the biggest and most high tech industry's are here in Texas? For instance, people know that Texas is a big place for computers, since places like Dell, Apple computers and numerous other computer related companies like that are here? Also, don't people know that Texas is, at least right now, one of the most financially sound places in the US? Are people just naive?

Texas teachers: What do you do to fulfill your professional development hours requirement?
Q. I'm certified in Texas and have not taught in a public school since my certification (almost 2 yrs.) I've been in private schools. I just wanted to make sure I keep up with the 150 hr requirement so I can apply for my renewal certificate in 5 yrs. I know that most of you probably just go to the stuff required by your school but, if you know of anything else that I can use that'll count please pass it along.

A. There are opportunities to get your PD requirements by attending seminars and also by reviewing dissertations. I know this latter because many who review work for those who are applying for Ph.Ds want "layman's" eyes as a fresh perspective before critically analyzing it.

How can you become a resident of Texas in order to pay in-state tuition?
Q. I know many schools want you to live in Texas for at least 12-months, how can you prove you've lived in Texas for 12 months? What if you lived in texas for 3 months before getting a local driver's license, do schools only accept the time after you go the license or is there a way to show you've already lived in Texas before the license was recieved.

A. Show the school your lease with the date it was signed. They have to accept it as proof of date of residency. If lease is not in your name, show them mail addressed to you, postmarked from date of residency...mail like credit card bills, utility bills, car loan, etc.

A. You guys should reverse the recent ruling of taking Jefferson out of Texan text books. That would be a good start. Also put a bit more effort into separation of church and state, that might get you Texans out of that situation.

What advantages are there living in Texas versus living in Oklahoma?
Q. We're thinking about moving to Texas (close to Decatur). It may be one year or five years, but we're still planning on it. The only thing I know is that Texas has no state income tax. (We live in Oklahoma currently). We're probably going to either move our trailer there or sell this one and buy another. What's the story on cost of living down there? Thanks.

A. Well. as you've probably heard, everything is bigger and better in Texas!!! Just stay out of Houston and Dallas. They are both pretty ugly cities. My suggestion would be to go to the hill country around New Braunfels. It's really pretty up there and the rivers (Guadalupe, Comal) are like right in your back yard.

Q. The Governor of Texas is empowered by the Texas Constitution of 1876 to appoint: a. the Texas Attorney General to office. b. the three members of the Texas Railroad Commission to office. c. the Texas Secretary of State to office. d. the Lieutenant Governor of Texas to office.

A. The answer is C. All the other offices are elected by the people of Texas. When people from other states voted for George W. Bush, some were impressed that he was governor of Texas. Under our state constitution - the Constitution of 1876 - the Texas governor has nearly no power at all. My dog could be Texas governor and not mess things up. Heck, even Rick Perry could do the job!

Q. How does the revised Texas curriculum plan to disprove separation of church and state as proposed by the founding fathers?
Asked by Black Holes & Revelations - Fri May 21 19:31:54 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It will be changing historical fact in order to discredit everything by Jefferson, Paine, the federalist papers and instead reinforce the false and misguided ultra right wing notion that this is a Christian nation. Teaching creationism in school, by the way, is not in the plan, but if it is taught, it will be found to be unconstitutional, as has already been found to be true in state courts around the nation. If this foolish idea passes muster, then Texas can rejoin the ranks of the least effective school systems in the nation. Something like what the SBOE proposes will certainly allow Texas to become the worst school system in the nation, dragging down other school systems when they have to replace textbooks with the lies and garbage… [cont.]

What are the rules in Texas about how much you can be required to work in a week?
Q. Texas is NOT a right-to-work state. We have no labor laws of our own. We only fall under federal guidelines. However, I cannot find what I am looking for on the web. My employer is changing our schedules and giving us a 4-week rotating schedule where during a particular 15-day stretch in that 4 weeks, we are being required to work 14 of those 15 days with only 1 day off. This is 7 days on, 1 day off, and 7 days on with 2 days off following all this. I just need to know if this is legal. Serious answers only please. I should have said earlier, each of us affected by this are hourly employees and we are paid time and a half for everything we work over 40 in a week. Another clarification: My understanding of a "right to work" state… [cont.]

At what location in Texas does the weather cease to be humid?
Q. I know that the east coast of Texas is very humid and the western part is very dry. I hear that the Austin area is humid, but not as bad as the east coast. A. In the panhandle and near the panhandle wheat grows good. Amarillo, Lubbock , Hardaman county and on down to Vernon and Witatal Falls. The grass looks bad, but it is full of minerals and vitamins that is good for cattle. Around Abiline, Anson and Hamlin, cotton grows very good. In the Houston area, peanuts, rice and pecans grow very good. I would say each area is fertile for the crops that it grows.
